Terms of service
These terms govern access to and use of Synapse. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
Pilot version — under counsel review. Synapse is operating a limited South Carolina pilot. These terms describe the service as it works today and will be updated before general availability.
Effective August 5, 2026.
What Synapse is
Synapse is a referral and price-transparency marketplace. It helps patients and their physicians find cash-pay providers, compare self-reported cash prices, and send and track a referral. Synapse does not employ clinicians, does not practice medicine, and does not provide medical advice.
Not medical advice, and not a guarantee of care
Nothing in Synapse is a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a substitute for the judgment of your physician. Listing a provider is not an endorsement of that provider. Whether to accept a referral, and on what terms, is the provider's decision.
Prices are provider-reported estimates
Cash prices are submitted by the provider and confirmed on a periodic basis. A price shown in Synapse is an estimate for the listed service, not a binding quote and not a bill. It may exclude items the provider lists as excluded, and the final amount owed is set between you and the provider. Synapse is not a party to that transaction, does not process payment for care, and does not bill insurance.
Not insurance
Synapse is not health insurance, not a health plan, not a discount medical plan organization, and not a substitute for coverage. Using Synapse does not create any entitlement to benefits.
Accounts and eligibility
You must be 18 or older to hold an account, and you must give accurate information and keep it current. Physician and cash-pay provider accounts are verified before they can send or receive referrals; you may not misstate your credentials, licensure, or the practice you represent. Do not share your credentials, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
Acceptable use
Do not use Synapse to submit a referral for a patient who has not agreed to it; to enter diagnosis, clinical history, or other detail the referral form does not ask for; to scrape, resell, or republish provider price data; to attempt to influence search ranking through payment or manipulation; or to interfere with the security or operation of the service.
Provider obligations
Cash-pay providers agree to keep listed services, locations, and prices accurate and to reconfirm prices when prompted; to respond to referrals they receive; to honor the listed price for the listed service when they accept a referral, absent a change disclosed to the patient in advance; and to maintain the licensure and credentials they represented during verification. Listings are free, and ranking cannot be purchased.
Employer accounts
An employer that purchases seats may invite employees and see aggregate usage and seat status. An employer admin cannot see an individual employee's searches, saved options, or referral detail, and may not condition employment on using Synapse.
Fees
Pricing for all plans is to be determined and will be published before any charges begin. Pricing after the pilot will be posted on the pricing page and will not be applied to an existing account without notice.
Availability and changes
We may add, change, or remove features, and the service may be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control. During the pilot, features may change without notice.
Disclaimers and limits
The service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Synapse disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for the acts or omissions of any provider. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for a breach of these terms, for a failed or withdrawn verification, or where continued access would create risk for patients. Referral history remains available to the other parties to those referrals.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
